What is tapentadol used for? Tapentadol is used to treat severe pain. It will only be prescribed if your doctor decides other non-opioid medicines cannot effectively manage your pain, or you can't tolerate those treatments. Tapentadol is not usually recommended for the treatment of chronic (long term) pain conditions.
